Accessibility

Our commitment

DermoShelf aims to conform to WCAG 2.2 level AA and to comply with the European Accessibility Act, which took effect on June 28, 2025. We treat accessibility as part of the product, not an afterthought — every release runs through a manual keyboard pass and a contrast check before it ships.

What we do

  • Primary controls in the main flows — buttons, links and form fields — are at least 44x44 px. Some dense secondary controls are smaller; see Known gaps.
  • Color contrast is at least 4.5:1 on body text.
  • The main flows can be completed with the keyboard alone: tab order follows the visual order and dialogs keep focus inside.
  • aria-pressed, aria-live and role attributes are used on the controls and status regions that need them.
  • Camera-permission denial path falls back to manual scan.
  • Keyboard reachability is checked by hand before each release rather than by an automated audit.
  • URL inputs auto-prepend https:// on paste so links don't 404 silently.

Known gaps

We list these openly so you know where the rough edges are. Each item has an owner and a deadline tracked in our internal backlog.

  • About 60 secondary controls — icon buttons, filter chips, compact list actions — are 20 to 40 px tall instead of 44. Growing them is a layout change we have not shipped yet.
  • Our automated accessibility check only covers the public pages (home, sign-in, ingredients). The signed-in screens — scan, result, routine, shelf, adviser, profile — are reviewed by hand, not by an automated gate.
  • Some scan and photo-retake states briefly show a toast without an aria-live wrapping element.

How to report a problem

If you hit a barrier — a control you can't reach, text you can't read, a flow that doesn't work with assistive tech — please tell us. We aim to acknowledge reports within two business days.

Email accessibility@dermoshelf.com. Include the page or screen, the device and browser, and what you expected to happen.
